Boston Borough Plan 2040 moves forward for consideration on 26 March

Posted 10 March 2025

Boston Borough Council is pleased to announce that the Boston Borough Plan 2040 is progressing to the next stage and will be considered by the Council's Cabinet on 26 March 2025.

This ambitious plan sets out a long-term vision to ensure that Boston is a thriving, inclusive, and sustainable borough - one that is fit for the future. It has been shaped through consultation with residents, businesses, and key partners, identifying priorities that will enhance the economy, strengthen communities, and improve health and sustainability across the borough.

By 2040, Boston will be a borough with a strong and resilient economy, where local people can access jobs and skills training, live in high-quality homes, and enjoy a safe and healthy environment. The Plan aligns with the Council's commitment to achieving Net Zero by 2040, ensuring a greener, more sustainable future for all.

Key priorities of the Boston Borough Plan 2040:

  • Thriving Economy - Enabling growth, investment, and regeneration in the town and rural areas.
  • Community Cohesion and Resilience - Supporting an inclusive, safe, and financially secure borough.
  • A Healthy and Sustainable Borough - Improving health, well-being, and environmental sustainability.

The plan also reflects Boston's unique heritage, its role in the wider South & East Lincolnshire Councils Partnership, and the upcoming changes under devolution, ensuring that our borough remains adaptable to future opportunities.

Following extensive public consultation, 75% of respondents agreed that these priorities align with Boston's needs, with key concerns raised around economic opportunities, community safety, and health inequalities. The Plan directly addresses these challenges with strategic aims and actions designed to deliver meaningful change.

Cllr Anne Dorrian, Leader of Boston Borough Council, said: "The Boston Borough Plan 2040 is the next natural step in our journey to shape a stronger, more resilient future for our communities. It builds on the momentum of our Town Centre Strategy and Action Plan, which laid the foundation for revitalising our town, and now takes a much broader view — one that embraces the needs and aspirations of the entire borough.

"Through consultation, our residents and businesses told us that while investment in Boston's town centre is crucial, we must also recognise the importance of our rural communities, ensuring they are not left behind. That's why this Plan takes a truly borough-wide approach, addressing the unique challenges and opportunities across all 19 parishes, from housing and jobs to infrastructure and sustainability.

"This is a Plan shaped by the people of Boston, for the people of Boston. It reflects our shared ambition for a borough that thrives economically, fosters strong and connected communities, and champions a healthier, more sustainable future. It is a vision we will deliver together —urban and rural, side by side — to ensure Boston is truly fit for the future."
