Boston Central Park will continue to be closed from Dusk til Dawn
In a recent Boston Town Area Committee (BTAC) meeting held on 27th July 2023, the committee agreed to continue closing Central Park in the evenings for a further two-year period, in order to reduce noise and anti-social behaviour incidents taking place over night.
The previous years since locking began has shown a decrease in reported incidents during the period since the park was locked.
A private security firm will continue to be contracted for the clearing of the park and locking of the gates. Inspector Colin Clarkson is quoted in the report that went to BTAC saying, "Community feedback from those that live in residential properties around the park has historically suggested that antisocial behaviour and crime has been more prevalent in the hours of darkness, and that it is more disruptive during these hours. Calls to police have been reduced again due to the park being closed in the hours of darkness, saving police time, and secondly and more importantly prevented members of the community from becoming a victim of crime and/or ASB."
Chairman of BTAC, Councillor Barrie Pierpoint, said: "By closing the park overnight, the anti-social behaviour has seen a huge reduction, this is clear from reports made to the Police, which I am sure the residents living in close proximity to the park are much appreciated.
"The relief, peace and quiet this reduction must have had for residents living adjacent to Central Park is something that we must continue with going forward, therefore I am fully supportive to continue with this valuable service which we can review again in a further two years."
