Boston Central Park brought communities together this summer

Boston Central Park hosted a range of fun days and events to help support families this summer - all of which were either free or just a small charge to enter. 

The feedback from the events has been hugely positive and saw Boston communities come together to enjoy the fun provided in the park. 

Sponsored by Boston Big Local, a beach was provided for the length of the school holidays which then became the setting for events for all ages and sectors of the community to enjoy.

A teddy bear's picnic was specifically requested by the community to allow babies and toddlers to enjoy time crawling or laying on the sand without older children present. 

Another event saw people living with dementia and their carers enjoy a Singing for Fun session around the beach, attended by more than 50 people.

One woman who had brought her mum who is living with dementia and two of her friends said: " I cannot believe how my mum has sung along it has been amazing, thank you for thinking of this idea."

A Fun in the Sun session for those living with additional support needs gave those attending a chance to enjoy building sandcastles and playing games whilst feeling safe and being able to play quietly without a lot of noise. 

A two-day event around the beach for the whole community with face painting, donkeys, giant tortoises, bouncy castles, art and craft and more saw several local organisations attend to showcase who they were and what their role is within the community. 

This event has grown over the years and has become one of the popular events the community look forward to each year. Over the two days the estimated footfall was more than 3,500 people.

A skate jam was attended by more than 50 children, young people and adults - another really successful event which included competitions, music and prizes. 

Sunny, aged 9, who attended, said: "Wow, that was awesome I can't believe they can do that! Can't wait to get home and get on my bike and have a go." 

A Fairy Door Hunt and Pirate Treasure Hunt also took place for a small charge. 

Comments from parents throughout those days included: "Such a great idea for children," "A great thing for kids to do during the holidays" and "I enjoyed doing it with the children as well."

Cllr Tracey Abbott, Portfolio Holder for Town Centre at Boston Borough Council said: "The Council has received lots of positive feedback from these events which brought fun, happiness and laughter to people from all sectors of our community. 

"From babies to senior citizens and their carers, the park has once again brought joy and created memories for residents this summer. 

"The town always comes together and supports community-led events and I would like to thank everyone who attended and those who helped make these activities possible."
