Making a Difference Case Study - Steve Slater

Organisation/Group:

Wyberton Wombles of Boston Common

Why You Got Involved?

Spurred on by my own personal difficulties in February 2021 I started a Facebook page to encourage members of Wyberton community to litter pick with me.  The group has grown beyond my wildest imagination.  We now have over 1400 members collecting over 100 bags of litter each week across the whole of the Borough.

What Impact/Difference is it Making to the Community?

For me it is a massive personal achievement to have been able to have a impact on maintaining our community but it is also an achievement for the entire Wyberton Wombles group, who continue to go above and beyond for our area.  The group is more than just picking litter.  We have created a community, built friendships and are helping to support a greener environment for the future.  For me personally it has been a stepping stone to become a Parish Councillor where I hope to be able to represent the community in the future.

How Would You Encourage Other to Get Involved in Their Community?

There are lots of different ways you can get involved, send us a message at Wyberton Wombles, we are a friendly group and you can help the community and make some new friends.  Even helping out at our regular coffee morning in Wyberton really makes a huge difference to the community!
