Making a Difference Case Study - Cristina Warrant

Organisation/Group:

Director - EEU in UK Community Support Ltd

Why You Got Involved?

I have always been really keen to get involved in the community where I live, since I moved here from Romania 20 years ago.  When my children where little I was able to help out at the school and was on the Parents, Teacher, Association, I wanted to make the school and the environment better for my children and others.

I have worked for many local businesses since moving here, I have loved all my jobs.  In more recent years I have been able to set up a Translation business of my own in the centre of Boston.  It was really clear when the Covid 19 pandemic hit, that a number of people in our community needed some further information on the facts available to them but also people needed to understand the thoughts of the local community.  I met both Arturs and Nichola from the Empowering Healthy Communities programme and felt that it was an opportunity to work with them to ensure our community got all the information on the pandemic they needed.

What Impact/Difference is it Making to the Community?

I hope by sharing the information and working with the team at Boston Borough Council I have made it a bit easier for those in the wider community to gather the facts they require about the pandemic, such as restrictions and vaccination programme, but that I have also made my colleagues at the Council understand the local community a little more.  I was recently invited to judge the #BostonHeroes awards, what a privilege to be involved in the first campaign.

How Would You Encourage Other to Get Involved in Their Community?

There are lots of ways you can support your community, whether it is helping at the school your kids go to, raising money or just helping share information on social media it all helps.
