Local Government Reorganisation

Boston Borough Council has formally responded to Government to acknowledge the first phase in the Local Government Reorganisation (LGR) process.
The Government wants to replace the current system of county and district/borough Councils with unitary authorities.
In December 2024, a White Paper published by the Government asked Councils in two-tier areas across England to work together to submit their interim plans for LGR by Friday, March 21 2025.
As part of this first phase, several different options have been proposed by local authorities across Lincolnshire.
While Boston Borough Council has not submitted an interim plan, the Leader of the Council, Cllr Anne Dorrian, has written to the Minister to formally acknowledge the Local Government Reorganisation process.
The letter acknowledges and supports the Minister's view that it is important to find solution that works best for residents.
Councillors are still reflecting upon the schemes submitted by a number of Lincolnshire Councils and once the Government's feedback has been received, Boston Borough Council will work with their preferred authorities to support the development of a single proposal, in time for the final deadline of 28th November 2025.
