Works have started to improve toilet facilities for disabled people with Boston's Changing Place Toilets

Back in 2021 The Government announced the Changing Places Fund Prospectus encouraging Councils to apply for their local areas to increase the number of Changing Place Toilets (CPTs) in venues with the greatest need with funding from the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities.

Boston Borough Council was successful in their bid and received £210,000 to improve four CPTs in Boston located at Lincoln Lane, Wide Bargate, Central Park and Geoff Moulder Leisure Complex.

Works have recently started which will offer additional accessible facilities than standard disabled toilets do including an adult changing bench, hoist facilities as well as extra space for carers in Lincoln Lane, Wide Bargate and Central Park this month.

Cllr Dale Broughton, Deputy Leader and Portfolio for Town Centre Development, said: "This is excellent news for residents and visitors of Boston, creating more accessible facilities for those that need it most.

"This is a very important step for integration and social equality. Increasing the number of Changing Places Toilets will help make our public places more accessible and will make a huge difference to the lives of disabled people, their carers and their families. By bring these additions to our area, it will bring us closer to having the right facilities available where people who need to can access them.

"I hope that it will make it easier for disabled people and their families to enjoy activities that many take for granted, whether going shopping or attending a local event."

The works are due to be complete by the end of July for all three facilities and works on the changing places at Geoff Moulder Leisure Complex will be incorporated into the Boston Leisure Project which is part of the Boston Town Deal funding with works expected to start later in the year.
