2022 has seen a reduction in cases of fly-tipping

Boston Borough Council has recorded a notable 20% decrease in cases of fly-tipping in 2022 compared to the previous year. A total of 2907 incidents were reported in the last 12 months, 713 less than in 2021, which is a considerable improvement.

This is great news as our waste, environmental, housing and enforcement teams continue to work together engaging with residents and local businesses to make sure the borough is kept clean and tidy through the year.  The teams have also worked together on a number of social media campaigns to raise awareness of people being fined or convicted for fly-tipping in an attempt to deter others.

We still need everyone to continue to play a role in disposing of additional waste and bulky items responsibly. This can be done by visiting our local Household Waste Recycling Centre on Bittern Way or for those large bulky items that you'd like taken away, you can make arrangements for us to come and collect these from the kerbside right outside your property. Book your bulky collection by calling our team on 01205 314200.

If you do come across any fly-tipping, we'd urge you to report it as soon as possible by emailing flyswat@boston.gov.uk, report it on the FixMyStreet app or report online at www.boston.gov.uk/report

Cllr Deborah Evans, Portfolio Holder for Environmental Services, said: "It's fantastic to see the rate of fly-tipping go down across the borough. It is a real credit to the work that has been undertaken by our dedicated teams.

"Fly-tipping is shameful, it spoils our surroundings, harms the environment, and shows irritation for our staff and volunteers who take great pride in keeping the area clean, tidy and well-maintained.

"I am really pleased that we've seen this decrease in fly-tipping over the course of the last year and I'd like to see the numbers continue to drop in 2023 and beyond.

"Thank you to all our residents and businesses who continue to dispose of their waste responsibly."
