Boston residents invited to get involved in tree planting at Garfits Park

Cllr Tracey Abbott, Portfolio Holder Parks and Open Spaces is inviting communities to get involved in tree planting at Garfits Park in Boston on Saturday 19th November 2022.

The new woodland area will cover an area the length of a football pitch in the park with 420 trees donated from the Woodland Trust. The trees will be a mix of holly, hazel, crab apple, downy birch, hawthorn and goat willow.

All volunteers are welcome, including individuals, families, community groups and businesses - anyone looking to get their hands dirty and join in doing something good for themselves and the community.

A total of 10 fruit trees were planted earlier in the year as a community orchard, alongside a specimen tree as part of the Queen's Platinum Jubilee Celebrations. This ties in with the council's drive to help tackle climate change and make the borough a greener and healthier place to live.

Cllr Abbott said: "Earlier in the year residents who formed part of a community group helped us plant fruit trees and I hope we will see the same fantastic support again this time round with many more trees that need planting.

"Our tree planting scheme is ambitious but it's a key part of our fight against climate change and commitment to protecting nature.

"Every tree we plant will capture a tonne of carbon and provide habitat for wildlife."

The planting is due to start at 10am, weather permitting.
