Statement of Sorrow by The Mayor

My sadness at this time is shared by Members and Officers of the Council and, I am sure, all residents across the whole of the Borough of Boston, as we remember with affection and gratitude the lifetime of service given by our longest reigning Monarch of more than 70 years.

We remember Queen Elizabeth as a woman who served this Country and the Commonwealth with her steadfast sense of duty, honour and integrity; and at her core she was a profoundly decent person.

Queen Elizabeth was also a devoted Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother and on behalf of the people of Boston, I send my heartfelt condolences to her family.

As a mark of respect the Union Flag will be flown at half-mast on the Council flagpole until the morning following the funeral.

A Book of Condolence has been placed in St Botolph's Church (Boston Stump) for residents to express their sadness at this time.  This is available from 9am to 3pm on Monday to Friday and 10am to 2pm on Saturday and Sunday, for all wishing to pay their respects.

As a mark of respect some of my engagements may need to be postponed at this sad time.

On the day of the Funeral the Council will join with a National Observance of two minutes silence at 11 a.m.

Furthermore the formal Proclamation of Succession will be read locally at the Boston War Memorial on a date and time to be announced, to which members of the public are invited to attend.
