Witham Way Country Park

Information about Witham Way Country Park

Situated approximately one mile from the town centre, the park offers a great setting for both wildlife and people!

Witham Way Country Park is a haven for local wildlife with a mosaic of woodland, grassland and scrub. A wildflower meadow attracts bees and other pollen gatherers, and habitats created on site including a bug park are attracting butterflies and other invertebrates. Bird boxes are providing the perfect nesting sites for owls taking advantage of the natural food on offer along the river bank. The site also features a community orchard which was planted to celebrate The Queen's Golden Jubilee in 2012. For on site locations please see the map at the bottom of this page.

The picnic area is the perfect spot to stop for a rest, but if you want to get moving why not try the trim trail! Thanks to funding from NHS Lincolnshire there are chin-up bars, balance beams, monkey bars and more! Witham Way Country Park features prominently in the "Let's Go Walking in Boston" booklet which is available from the Municipal Buildings, West Street.

In 2012 Witham Way was designated as a Local Nature Reserve (LNR) by Natural England. LNRs are places with wildlife features that are of special interest locally, they are spaces for both people and wildlife. Witham Way provides great opportunities to the public as well as schools and specialist audiences to experience England's natural heritage.

Many community groups make use of the park including the Athletics Club, Ramblers Association, the Territorial Army Cadets for manoeuvres, local secondary schools for various activities including orienteering, primary schools both from the immediate area and further afield and the Fire Service for fitness training.

If you are visiting by car the main entrance and parking area is next to Boston Town Football Club, off Tattershall Road. Access can also be gained using the cycle route (Sustrans route 1) which runs through the park between Grand Sluice and Anton's Gowt Lock. Witham Way Country Park is fully accessible to all, offering a network of hard-surface pathways suitable for wheelchairs and pushchairs.
