Coastal Concordat
Boston Borough Council have signed up to the Coastal Concordat. This is a voluntary agreement, it was originally developed in 2013, and was refreshed in December 2019.
The main benefit is to form agreements between the main regulatory bodies (eg EA and Natural England) and streamline processes associated with development in coastal areas where multiple agencies would have a regulatory function. It provides a framework for the coordination of consenting arrangements, and requires authorities to adopt a 'single point of entry' approach to signpost developers/applicants to the relevant regulatory bodies. It also allows a single consenting body to take a lead for example in respect of EIA or Habitats Regulation Assessments wherein all bodies adopt the opinion of the lead assessing body.
Details of the Concordat can be found on the Coastal Concordat website.
