What is Planning?

Information about Planning, also known as Development Management

Planning is responsible for deciding planning applications for new developments and changes to use of buildings. It also deals with other types of application such as adverts, listed buildings and works to protected trees.

The Planning Team is the first port of call for all town planning enquiries about proposed development. This can range from a small house extension or larger new housing schemes to factory or town centre development; and for enquiries about development that is underway. The small team of committed professionals care about the environment and we serve the community to create better, safer sustainable places where people live, work and play.

We have a paid Pre-Application service for guidance and advice in relation to development proposals prior to the submission of an application .

Planning provides accessible guidance in person or through the Council website on all types of planning enquiries from making an application, through to encouraging the right development in the right place. We have a pro-development attitude and although we now charge for pre-application advice, this is so that we can guarantee that customers receive timely and consistent professional guidance. The Team processes all types of planning applications in accordance with the Council's vision for Boston Borough as set out in the Community Plan and development plans. Officers determine the majority of applications in accordance with the Council's Scheme of Delegation; the Planning Committee which meets once every four weeks determines larger or more contentious applications.
