Anglian Water help and advice coming to Boston

Free aids to help keep homes and businesses free of pipe and sewer blockages and save water are being offered in Boston.

Lincolnshire Community and Voluntary Service (LCVS) is also offering free talks on the issue to community groups and to attend events with all the information and aids thanks to its partnership work with Anglian Water.

Jackie Lane, LCVS project officer working with Anglian Water said: "There are lots of little things you can do in your home or business to make a big difference to ensuring pipes remain clear and water is used efficiently - both of which help people save money and, in the case of blocked pipes, a lot of potential hassle too.

"I'm really keen to spread the word far and wide and am more than happy to give talks and hand out free aids and information at community events and community groups in the area. Please do invite me along!"

Items Jackie hands out include handy 'gunk pots' to scrape fats and oils into instead of washing them down plugs where they build up and block pipes, sink strainers to catch hair and food to avoid it getting into sewers and pipes and sprays to make ordinary tissues do the job of a wipe. Wipes should never be flushed down toilets even if they say they are flushable. They can flush down the toilet but don't break up quickly enough to avoid a blockage.

LCVS works alongside Anglian Water to spread the Keep It Clear message. The campaign is all about the small things we can all do to help keep our sewers and drains clear and avoid the misery, cost, bad smells and potential flooding and pollution caused by avoidable blockages.

Items that should always go in bins and never down drains include:

Jackie is already due to attend a number of upcoming events where she will also be providing children's activities.
