New market and FREE film for the festive period

Boston's Festive Market is a new addition to the calendar and will come with an extra sprinkling of FREE Christmas cheer this year.

There will be a free screening of the magical yuletide film, Elf, in the Stump on the afternoon of the event on Sunday, December 17.

Elf tells the family-friendly story of Buddy (played by Will Ferrell) who is accidentally transported to the North Pole as a toddler and grows up among Santa's little helpers.

Unable to shake off the feeling that he doesn't really belong (he's three times the size of the other elves for starters) he travels to New York, still dressed as an elf, to find his real father. Innocent and naive, chaos ensues.

There's nothing more certain to get you in the mood for Christmas than a visit to the Stump at this special time of year, and this film will add to the atmosphere.

The festive market will start at 9.30am with a range of stalls and festive entertainment. There will also be a visit from the Ice Queen and Jack Frost (pictured).

The extra festive-themed market still has room for more traders. Apply at events@boston.gov.uk

The festive market will follow the Christmas Market and Illuminate Parade including Christmas lights switch-on taking place on Thursday, November 23.

The Christmas Market will run from noon through to 7.30pm and there will be free entertainment from a stage in the Market Place from late afternoon.

The third Illuminate festival will again bring to life the story of the Mayflower Pilgrims in a way that is relevant to the local community today.

Illuminate 2017 will include innovative light-based artworks reflecting the themes of freedom and liberty in the historic setting of the sweeping Market Place. Community groups and schools will participate in lantern parades, having worked with artists to produce the lanterns in advance of the festival.
