Boston Bike Night turbo charged

Boston Bike Night has been awarded £2,499 to help ensure the success of this year's event and allow the committee to build foundations for next year.

The volunteer-led event, now run by a standalone committee, attracts around 5,000 visitors to Boston town centre to enjoy the spectacle of up to 2,000 visiting motorbikes.

Boston Big Local awarded the grant to help cover costs including insurance, safety barriers and First Aid support. Lincolnshire Community and Voluntary Support (LCVS) worked with Boston Bike Night to secure the funds and is also seeking to support it to find more volunteer marshals.

The event otherwise relies on sponsorship from local businesses.

David Simpson, Boston Bike Night committee chairman, said: "This grant gives us the comfort that we have got something in hand to cope with next year and takes off a lot of pressure.

"Without LCVS we would not have known about this funding and we are grateful to them, Boston Big Local and all of our sponsors.

"It's their support that will help secure the future of Boston Bike Night, which is really Boston's biggest event apart from the May Fair and the largest Bike Night in Lincolnshire outside of Barton in the north."

Richard Tory, Boston Big Local chairman, said: "Boston Big Local agreed to help fund this event as it is such an important part of the town's social calendar, drawing in thousands of people of all backgrounds to experience a unique gathering of machines and their riders, in an atmosphere of openness and inclusivity."

The 21st Boston Bike Night takes place from 6pm on Thursday, July 6.

Take your chance to help ensure the success of this event and get behind the scenes of what it takes to put it on, as a volunteer marshal.
