Internet phone scam
Beware the latest phone scam from thieves who are after your money.
Residents have reported being contacted by someone pretending to be from their internet provider telling them there is a problem with their service, their router or that their account has been hacked. They may know your name and address, so appearing more convincing.
They may ask to have remote access to your computer "to fix the problem". In some instances they have then "discovered" that the customer is due a refund and asked for access to a bank account in order to refund the money. Some who have succumbed to this clever scam have seen as much as £8,000 disappear from their bank account.
You are advised to end the call immediately as the caller is seeking to gain control of your computer and lock you out... or worse.
