Accident-prone hire driver loses his licence

Boston Borough Council has taken action against a private hire driver and withdrawn his licence with immediate effect after hearing of a catalogue of accidents he had been involved in.

The council's regulatory and appeals sub-committee heard about the frequency and nature of the accidents and ruled the driver was not a fit and proper person to retain a Private Hire Driver Licence. His licence was revoked on grounds of public safety.

The driver appeared before the sub-committee and was told he should seek additional driving experience. He cannot apply to be re-licensed for a year and would need to provide evidence that he is a safe driver. It was suggested he should undertake a Lincolnshire Road Safety Partnership Assessment.

No one was injured in any of the accidents.

A council spokesman said: "The council takes these issues seriously. It has a duty to safeguard the public when travelling in licensed hire vehicles."
